Firing up my turbo powered street legal VW. This is first fire after break-in. Cooker's V-Dubs, Clear Spring, Md. As of 6/21/08, this is the quickest street legal VW on the east coast. 9.66 at 142 mph.
Shot this video this weekend at Farmington, NC. The Hyper Bug has been around for A LONG time, but this was the first time I have seen it with this engine - 1641cc, no frills turbo with nitrous. I didn't expect much...boy I was wrong. The car actually went much quicker than this run, but I missed the first pass because I just didn't realize what I was about to witness! ENJOY!
We had some problems all day with too much traction, and a trashed clutch, but i thought I would post a few of the passes here for some cool wheelies, lol.
Cooker's V-Dubs, Clear Spring, Maryland. See my other videos for more of this and other cars!
After firing the engine, we took the car for a very short drive. This is video of the first trip on car and engine. Would've been longer, but the roads here are still covered with calcium, yuck. Created by Cooker's V-Dubs, Clear Spring, Md.
First fire up after engine assembly. The Phantom Ghia is a 9 second 1/4 mile, 1958 VW Karmann Ghia door slammer. Built by Robert Cook or Cooker's V-Dubs in Clear Spring, Maryland and owned and driven by Rob Schultz. ****UPDATE**** this car now resides in France under new ownership.
This is video of the final round in Unlimited Street East 2008 at Radford, Va, 6/8/08. Racing against Jerry Lewis and his 68 turbo/nitrous beetle. What you hear at the end is me witnessing Jerry having difficulties stopping and heading for the sand trap. He was able to get the car slowed enough to turn before he went into the runoff.
On our way to the local saturday night cruise-in. We do this every weekend. This video is filmed from my brothers 1950 Split. In the video you see 1955 Peach, 1956 Mint Green and 1968 White.
This is the last pass on the old clutch set-up. You will hear the clutch go away as I shift in 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and then 4th where I just shut it down. New set-up for 2008. Cooker's V-Dubs, Clear Spring, Md.
