On only our second full 1/4 mile pass in the car, Cooker's V-Dubs built turbo beetle becomes the quickest street legal air cooled VW on the East coast! June 20, 2008. Shot this video this weekend at Farmington, NC. The Hyper Bug has been around for A LONG time, but this was the first time I have seen it with this engine - 1641cc, no frills turbo with nitrous. I didn't expect much...boy I was wrong. The car actually went much quicker than this run, but I missed the first pass because I just didn't realize what I was about to witness! ENJOY!
We had some problems all day with too much traction, and a trashed clutch, but i thought I would post a few of the passes here for some cool wheelies, lol.

First fire up after engine assembly. The Phantom Ghia is a 9 second 1/4 mile, 1958 VW Karmann Ghia door slammer. Built by Robert Cook or Cooker's V-Dubs in Clear Spring, Maryland and owned and driven by Rob Schultz. ****UPDATE**** this car now resides in France under new ownership.
This is video of the final round in Unlimited Street East 2008 at Radford, Va, 6/8/08. Racing against Jerry Lewis and his 68 turbo/nitrous beetle. What you hear at the end is me witnessing Jerry having difficulties stopping and heading for the sand trap. He was able to get the car slowed enough to turn before he went into the runoff.

This is the last pass on the old clutch set-up. You will hear the clutch go away as I shift in 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and then 4th where I just shut it down. New set-up for 2008. Cooker's V-Dubs, Clear Spring, Md.
I won the Unlimited Street East VW race!! White 1968 beetle, 2276cc turbo. What a fun time! An 1/8th mile time of 6.70 et @ 106.58 MPH through the muffler, no wheelie bars. Car has a best 1/8th mile time of 6.15 @ 114 MPH. My tough competitor is Jerry Lewis in his sick fast red turbo/nitrous powered 1968 V-Dub! Thanx to Jackie for the video!
Just tryin out my new in-car cam. Toolin down the road on my way to Wal-mart, lol. Pump gas, spool, big wheelies, mega horsepower...yet cruises oh so nice! Sorry haters, lol!
